Resumed Releases of 2021 State Database (11/8/23)
  • The HCUP Central Distributor has resumed releases of 2021 state databases. New releases will be reflected on the Available Databases by Year page. Please see the HCUP-US Request Data page for more information on ordering Central Distributor databases.
HCUP Statistical Brief on Characteristics of 30-Day All-Cause Hospital Readmissions, 2016-2020 (PDF file, 1060 KB; HTML (09/29/23)
  • Changes in 30-day all-cause readmission rates for 2016–2019 and 2020 are presented by expected primary payer, patient location, and race and ethnicity. Readmission rates and average costs for 2020 are provided by the principal diagnosis. The Stat Brief finds that, from 2016 to 2020, the 30-day all-cause readmission rate remained at 13.9 per 100 index admissions, but the number of readmissions decreased by 10 percent in 2020 compared with 2016-2019. HCUP Fast Stats (09/29/23)
  • AHRQ has released new information in HCUP Fast Stats. The Opioid-Related Hospital Use topic has been updated to include new inpatient and emergency department (ED) data. Since the last update, this topic now includes 2021 inpatient data (36 States), 2021 ED data (31 States), and 2022 quarterly inpatient data (15 States).

  • HCUPnet has been updated to include 2020 NRD, 2020 SID, and 2018-2020 Community-Level Statistics data.
