The All-Payer Severity-adjusted DRGs (APS-DRGs) are assigned using software developed by HSS, Inc. This severity measure includes the APS-DRG group number and weights developed using the NIS for mortality, length of stay, and total charges. The prefix "APSDRG" has been included in the data element names to distinguish APS-DRG measures from other HCUP data elements. The APS-DRG data elements were discontinued beginning with the 2010 NIS. For 2009 databases, the APS-DRG version is 27. For 2008 databases, the APS-DRG version is 26. For 2007 databases, the APS-DRG version is 25. For 2006 HCUP databases, the APS-DRG version is 24. For 2005 HCUP databases, the APS-DRG version is 23. For 2004 HCUP databases, the APS-DRG version is 22. For the 2003 HCUP databases, the APS-DRG version is 21. For the 2002 NIS, the APS-DRG version is 20.
