The daily rate (RATE) is retained as provided by the data source. Zero values are retained and NOT set to missing (.). Negative values are set to invalid (.A).
RATE is contained in a line item charge detail file. This file will contain multiple observations in the file with the same revenue code (REVCODE) for a discharge record. To identify the total charge and units of service to specific revenue centers, the line item charge (CHARGE) and unit detail (UNITS) for a discharge should be summarized by revenue code (REVCODE) and the HCUP variable KEY which uniquely identifies a discharge. KEY can also be used to merge the detail charge information onto the discharge record in the Core file.
