Virtual HCUP Data Users' Workshop: Planning Your HCUP Analysis
Workshop
When: Wednesday, November 2 and Thursday, November 3 from 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM ET
Location: Online
Other Information: Registration will open on Wednesday, October 5, 2022.*
Summary: AHRQ will sponsor an intermediate-level 2-day virtual Planning Your HCUP Analysis workshop on November 2-3, 2022. This virtual workshop will walk through considerations and recommendations to assist researchers in the planning of analytic studies that use HCUP databases and/or research tools. Attendees will learn how to determine which HCUP database best suits their research given their population and healthcare setting of interest. Presenters will also discuss how HCUP research tools can be used to help define conditions or procedures of interest. Additionally, guidance will be offered for decision-making related to specific outcomes of interest such as cost of care and readmissions.

On day 1 of the workshop, presenters will provide an overview of HCUP and the HCUP User Support (HCUP-US) website and walk through the first three of the following analytic considerations. On day 2, presenters will review the remaining five analytic considerations.
  • Deciding which HCUP database to use
  • Using multi-year HCUP data for your analysis
  • Defining your conditions and/or procedures of interest
  • Identifying data elements of interest
  • Defining outcomes of interest
  • Validating HCUP estimates
  • Purchasing HCUP databases
  • Confirming HCUP publication requirements
Attendees will have opportunities to ask questions to the presenters and members of the AHRQ HCUP team. There is no fee to attend the workshop.

For the participants who are not familiar with HCUP databases and tools, we highly recommend attending the HCUP Fall Webinar Series presentations October 18-October 20, or reviewing the Online HCUP Overview Course and HCUP Software Tools Tutorial prior to attending the workshop.
