KID File Specifications

KID releases for the data years listed below are available for purchase online through the Online HCUP Central Distributor. The KID was not produced for 2015 because of the transition from ICD-9-CM to ICD-10-CM/PCS coding. Each year of the KID is comprised of the core data file and one or more additional files, in ASCII text format. A Hospital File is always included. Files for Severity Measures and for Diagnosis and Procedure Groups are also included, depending on the year. The following links provide file specifications for the KID including the data set name, number of records, total record length, number of bytes, and record layout.
