SAS load programs are available for HCUP Nationwide databases purchased through the HCUP Central Distributor. Nationwide databases are delivered from the HCUP Central Distributor in either ASCII format (NIS, KID) or CSV format (NEDS, NRD). SAS load programs are used to load the ASCII or CSV data files into SAS.

The load programs are provided in SAS format and there is one SAS load program for each data file. SAS load programs are provided by year, by database type. A cumulative zip file containing the SAS load programs for every year for each database type is also provided below. SAS load programs for NIS data years prior to 1998 are only available in the cumulative zip file.

The amount of time it takes to download a file depends on your machine, browser and Internet connection. The amount of space required to work with your database(s) in SAS will vary from 10 GB to 100 GB depending on the database and year. See the individual Overview page for each database for space requirements.
