Homeless (Homeless) is retained as reported by data with two exceptions. Any source-specific value for "unknown" is recoded to missing (.), and invalid characters such as negative values are set to invalid (.A). |

Nebraska The condition code "17" indicates that the patient is homeless and is used to populate the HOMELESS field. New Jersey The condition code "17" indicates that the patient is homeless and is used to populate the HOMELESS field. New York New York uses the condition code "17" to indicate that the patient is homeless and is used to populate the HOMELESS field. Patient discharges to a shelter are also categorized as HOMELESS.
Utah Utah does not differentiate between records with a missing value for homeless and records not identified as homeless. Any record not identified as homeless is coded as missing in the source data. Wisconsin Wisconsin does not differentiate between records with a missing value for homeless and records not identified as homeless.
