New Jersey

Beginning in 2015, the condition code "P1" is used to populate the DNR field. The condition code "P1" indicates that the patient has a Do Not Resuscitate Order (DNR).

New Jersey provided a DNR indicator through 2008 when it was discontinued. Source documentation indicates that "Do Not Resuscitate" (DNR) is coded when the discharge status is "expired" (DISPUB92 = 20).

A small number of records in the New Jersey SEDD include information on DNR. These records include a combination of ambulatory surgery and emergency department services.

DNR is possibly coded on records that are combination ambulatory surgery and emergency department events. Records that are solely emergency department events do not include information on DNR.
