STATE_ED is used to identify emergency department (ED) records. A value of 1 indicates that the statewide data source has designated the record as ED. A value of 0 marks records that are not identified as ED by the data source. A missing value implies that the state does not identify ED records. |

Vermont For 2006-2010 data, Vermont no longer supplied a state indicator of Emergency Department services. To prevent all Vermont AE records being placed in the SASD, during HCUP processing, all Vermont records with a revenue code of "45x" were assigned a STATE_ED value of 1. Starting in 2011, Vermont supplied a state indicator for Emergency Department services. We used the state indicator along with the revenue code of "45x" to assign a STATE_ED value of 1. |
