State Specific Notes

Arkansas

Beginning in 2014, Arkansas provides a condition code P1 for Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order. This code indicates that a DNR order was written at the time of or within the first 24 hours of the patient's admission to the hospital and is clearly documented in the patients' medial record.

California

Source documentation indicates that if DNR="Y" then a "Do Not Resuscitate" order was written at the time of or within the first 24 hours of the patient's admission to the hospital.

New Jersey

Beginning in 2015, the condition code "P1" is used to populate the DNR field. The condition code "P1" indicates that the patient has a Do Not Resuscitate Order (DNR).

New Jersey provided a DNR indicator through 2008 when it was discontinued. Source documentation indicates that "Do Not Resuscitate" (DNR) is coded when the discharge status is "expired" (DISPUB92 = 20).

Oregon

Beginning in 2008, source documentation indicates that if DNR="P1" then a "Do Not Resuscitate" order was written at the time of or within the first 24 hours of the patient's admission to the hospital
