Release of HCUP Findings-At-A-Glance Related to Heat Exposure (April 2022)

Release Date: April 2022

AHRQ has released a new data brief, HCUP Findings-At-A-Glance: Emergency Department Visits for Diagnoses Directly Indicating Heat Exposure: Variation Across Counties in the United States, 2016-2020. This data brief presents county- and State-level population rates of emergency department (ED) visits with a diagnosis directly indicating heat exposure, the most narrow definition of heat-related illnesses that require hospital care. In addition to comparing state-specific variation in ED visits related to heat exposure, the analysis showed that rural counties were more likely to have higher rates of ED visits related to heat exposure than large metropolitan counties.
