Updates to the Clinical Classifications Software Refined (CCSR) for ICD-10-CM diagnoses and Procedure Classes Refined for ICD-10-PCS (March 2021)

Release Date: March 2021

AHRQ has released updates to the following two tools:
  • Clinical Classifications Software Refined (CCSR) for ICD-10-CM diagnoses, v2021.2 (codes valid through FY 2021): With this update, AHRQ has added six codes related to COVID-19 that became effective January 1, 2021 and aligned the mapping of diagnosis codes into the injury-related CCSR categories with the 2020 ICD-10-CM Injury Diagnosis Framework for Categorizing Injuries by Body Region and Nature of Injury.
  • Procedure Classes Refined for ICD-10-PCS, v2021.2 (codes valid through FY 2021): With this update, the tool has been transitioned out of beta status. The identification of major surgeries is now aligned with the definition of operating room procedures in the AHRQ Quality Indicator (QI) software.
The CCSR for ICD-10-CM diagnoses and Procedure Classes Refined for ICD-10-PCS can be downloaded from the Tools & Software section of HCUP-US.
